ABOUT US:

Rassner, Rassner and Olman is an internationally recognized law firm based in New York. We specialize in the handling of longshoremen's compensation, seamen's injury and ship passengers' cases though we represent clients in other matters as well.

Our firm is comprised of two attorneys, Alan C. Rassner and Donald D. Olman. We have been working together for over 30 years and have a combined experience of over 80 years in maritime law.

We are both admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States. In addition to trying cases in the United States District Courts and the Supreme Courts of the State of New York, each of us has argued appeals before the Appellate Division and Court of Appeals of the State of New York and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Mr. Rassner has also argued appeals involving maritime matters before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in New Orleans, Louisiana and the Supreme Court of the United States in Washington, D.C.

At the present time Mr. Olman represents seamen, ship passengers and longshoremen in connection with maritime injuries and death, as well as other clients.

Mr. Rassner, who is "Of Counsel" to the firm, confines his practice to representing persons covered by the Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act, including longshoremen, harbor workers, dock builders, persons covered pursuant to the Nonappropriated Fund Instrumentalities Act (such as AAFES employees) and The Defense Base Act.

The firm accepts only a limited number of cases in order to give careful, individualized attention to each matter.

HISTORY:

The firm was founded by Jacob Rassner in the 1940's.

Alan C. Rassner joined the firm as a clerk in 1956 while he attended Fordham University School of Law in the evening. Following graduation and being admitted to the bar in 1961, he became an associate attorney with his uncle, Jacob Rassner.

Donald D. Olman, graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York in 1956. Following working aboard U.S. Merchant vessels as an engineer and two years service in the U.S. Navy as an officer aboard a Destroyer, he clerked for maritime attorney, Silas Blake Axtell while attending New York Law School. He graduated in 1961 and joined the Jacob Rassner firm.

At the time, both Mr. Rassner and Mr. Olman were engaged in the handling of maritime personal injury matters and tried cases in both State and Federal Courts.

Mr. Olman left the firm in 1968 to establish his own practice.

In 1974, Mr. Rassner and Jacob Rassner established a partnership under the name of "Rassner and Rassner".

Jacob Rassner passed away in 1976 and in that year Mr. Rassner and Mr. Olman formed a partnership known as "Rassner, Rassner and Olman".

In 1996 Mr. Rassner became "Of Counsel" to the firm.
